My pH has been steady at 7.9-8.1 for the last couple of months. But over the last week it has risen to 8.2-8.4. Two things have recently changed on my tank.

1) I slowly increased my nitrates from being undetectable to 5 ppm.
2) I stopped all dosing due to what I believe was chemicals leeching from my cheap eBay dosing containers (story for another time).

Is it possible that these changes have increased coral and chaeto growth, leading to increased photosynthesis, which has increased my pH? Or is it simply that my pH probe could use a recalibration?

My alk is 8.5 dkh and the probe was calibrated ~4 months ago. I usually don't worry about pH, but it is my understanding that large swings can be pretty detrimental.

Well PH is very important because alkalinity and PH have a direct correlation corals also calcify faster at PHs closer to 8.4.. and its very possible that the PH has risen because of lower CO2 levels which is what happens because of photosynthesis..
