That is the benefit of having a less energy efficient home, better pH . Disadvantage of having a more energy efficient home, lower pH :mad:. Guess you can say that they somehow balance out from a cost perspective. While my electric bill may be less, the money I save there will be spent on soda lime.

Have corals? Especially SPS? If you do, might want to look into safe ways to raise PH. It has been shown to be one very important component to calcification, I.e. coral growth.

Haha, I actually don't need to have my corals grow any faster. Colonies outgrew my 265 necessitating the now 450. There's no bigger tank coming. Been running my tanks at this PH for years, there no real safe/sensible way to raise it. I'd always recommend using Kalk, but even that only gets you a bit of a boost. I'll reiterate that most experienced reefers have realized that chasing PH is mostly pointless.

I imagine that I won't be chasing pH for too long. Once my alk/cal usage increases, I'll dose more kalk which will help with the pH. May still keep the scrubber around, but that is what I see happening when I have more SPS.

Before I say anything is my 2 month ago ph was 7.7-7.9 only. What I did is. Get more fresh air in. Set a. Inline fan takeing out hot air with chiller when chiller is on. Also make a small windows let the fresh air in. Also add refugium light for the night time. Ph is fine. Now

Chase pH if you want, and if room air exchange is possible it's a good idea on many fronts, but a pH in the 7.8/7.9 range really isn't going to doom your tank as long as the alkalinity is within an acceptable range. I keep my tank at around 8.5-9.0 dkh and just don't worry about pH. Also keep in mind that pH electrodes are notorious for drifting. I've been able to grow many large SPS colonies at a lower pH. Here's 1,000 words (as reference, unicorn tang is 10")....

Since my original post, I changed out my Tunze 9004 (hated it) to a HOB Reef Octopus classic 90. I hooked it up to my CO2 scrubber and my pH went from 7.5ish to 8.2, and 8.1 at night. I know most don’t chase pH but when you’re running 7.5 and 7.6 at your peak, that to me, is a problem.

And for me, it’s now solved.

So it looks like I was able to get a week out of my first media. pH has be consistently over 8. Media wasn't actually completely spent once I took it out so next time I am going to wait until my pH drop below 8 at night before changing.

Know we do not chase pH but I definitely like it being above 8. I will find a more cost effective way to deal with it, maybe a Fresh Air Intake like someone mentioned somewhere that I read. They build these new home so efficient that they keep in too much CO2. Gotta exchange it some how.
