ph probe location?! where is best spot?

in your opinion where is best spot for ph probe, i just put mine in a overflow, my overflow is 30'' today i was freaking out about my ph being at 7.5, until i noticed that my probe fell all the way down 30'' deep, as soon as i raised it back up to surface of water ph instantly raised to 8.0. with that i started to wonder if ph of water is different at different parts of the tank. i mean i guess when water is all the way down inside overflow it barely gets any movements, no wonder i get ph that little way down there.

Following! I have my Hydros PH probe in my sump in the skimmer chamber where the probe holder is. (Not in probe holder though).

I have mine in the sump, right after the main filtration (filter socks).

It doesn't matter too much as long as where you have it gets reasonable flow from the main tank. pH does not vary detectably by position in the tank.

But apparently it does in overflow top vrs buttom, it was 7.5 on bottom and 8.0 on top inside my overflow.
