Just curious if anyone else has had this experience.
My tank was previously stable around pH 7.9 (7.81 to 7.96), so I tried running the skimmer airline outside. Within a few hours my pH shot up to 8.3-8.4 and remained there for about a week. As an experiment, I disconnected the outside line so the skimmer was once again pulling air from inside the room and interestingly enough, after 4 days, the pH remains steady between 8.3-8.4. I haven't changed any other parameters, nor have I aired out the house during this time. I'll keep track of the changes and see how long this lasts before the indoor CO2 eventually drives the pH down again. Obviously, this is a welcome surprise, but my gut would have predicted the pH would have returned back to baseline within a day or two. Anyone else have this experience?
