Here's a great article about PH and what to do to raise/lower it in different situations.

Hey everyone I'm brand new to this site and this is my first post. I created an account because I saw a lot of wisdom on this site when it comes to reef tanks and there seems to be a lot of aquarium experts![]()
I have a 55 gallon tank the ammonia is 0.01, nitrate 0 PPM, nitrate is about 5 PPM. We just added our first 2 corals (hammer and button) yesterday. Tank has been fully established and cycled for a few weeks now. Over the last couple days I've noticed that my pH has dropped to 7.9 or 8.0 depending on the time of day and I can't get it to raise back up to 8.2 or 8.3. I've tried creating more waves on the surface, I've added Instant Ocean sea buffer exactly as directions say once a day.. oh and my salinity is at about 1.025 / 33.8.
If any of you have any recommendations as how I can raise and keep my pH around 8.2 or 8.3 I would really appreciate itwe have two O clowns, yellowtail blue damsel, Firefish, flame angel, and Klein's butterfly. We've also just recently added a Mini Carpet Anemone and the bubble tip anemone which both are on opposite sides of the tank. We have two Phlizon 165W lights that come with an array of different colors primarily blue and white. Thanks and Merry Christmas
I could probably rig up something but woukd be pretty difficult. To clarify what exactly do you mean by add a sump? Like a refugium?WELCOME!
There's a lot of great people and information on this site. It's the only reefing forum I visit with any regularity.
How long did the tank cycle? How old is the tank now? 6 fish if I count correctly?
I don't know anything about your lights, and I'm no expert. The number of fish sounds okay. The butterfly and angle might nip corals in the future. I've never had either species in a reef. From reading, it appears each fish is an individual. Even the most well fed among them will still eat or nip corals, depending on the personality of that particular fish.
Is there a way for you to use a hang on overflow and incorporate a sump into your system? That's really my only suggestion. A sump sure makes things easier, although it adds a level of complication that some aren't ready for.
A belated Merry Christmas to you, and Happy New Year!!
