Ph

why do you want to?

high ph may be caused by low carbon dioxide.

Even my FW tanks with a peat moss substrate have a pH of over 8.4 (api high range kit) because plants have lowered the carbon dioxide.

Even fish requiring low ph (7 or less) thrive and live for years.

My discus and stingray have lived for 6 years so fare together and are happy and have a ph off 8.5

Keeping a stable ph is more important that lowering or raising it in a tropical tank. The fish will adjust. Now if you try and do a dwarf shrimp tank ph is very important. If you are doing fish you will do more harm than good when messing with ph.
