Ph ?

My tank hit 8.62 yesterday. What kind of problem could this cause?

It been hitting at least 8.5 in the day for a long period of time now. Haven't noticed anything unusual

Can PH be to high?

It can, but won't be if you are not dosing limewater (kalkwasser), or overdosing carbonate buffers to very high alkalinity.

The main result is excessive precipitation of calcium carbonate. In bad cases, it happens throughout the water column, turning the tank like milk:

Dosing two part. Not experiencing percipatation, water is crystal clear. May be my ph probe?

Probably, unless you measured right near and when you dosed, or alkalinity is super high.

When did you last recalibrate it?

If it is high, more aeration will bring it down.

I agree with the fellow reefers. I usually soak mine in a bit of vinegar then clean off with tap water and ro water before recalibrating. Don't go chasing the Ph meter. Been there and done that. Didn't work out
well for me. Keep around a ph kit in the closet somewhere to double check your probe when in doubt. Its will help you know when you need to calibrate your unit when you think your readings are off. I'm not that
up on maintenance on the probes. I only clean them like once a year.

Alk is around 10. It has held steady for at least a few years other than when I switched salts. Probe has never been recalibrated

Then it is definitely time. lol

Funny you reported this because I was wondering something....
I have two PH probes, one that monitors the tank 24/7 and the other that I do ad-hocly. Early in the week, the PH probe that monitors 27/4 started reporting higher and higher levels. It happens to coincide with the fact that I started running my air conditioner. I was wondering if there was a correlation. After 2 days of this, it started getting really high. At night, it would go from 8.3 to 9.2!!! rofl First thought, guess my fish and coral are fried!! Wake up in the morning everything is fine (didn't expect it to not be) Next day, same thing, at night when the AC kicked on the PH probe went through the roof. I measured with my ad-hoc meter and it was at 8.2 so I knew everything was ok, but found it very strange that the 24/7 meter was messing up when my AC ran for a few hours. I will re-calibrate it end of the week.

pH meters read higher overtime if not recalibrated. Between calibrations I have seen .2 or more difference. Give it a good soaking/cleaning and recalibrate.
