I am cycling my first saltwater tank, and I'm noticing that my pH is slowly decreasing. How do I raise my pH. 0.2

Don't chase the ph Esp in a cycling tank.

There's nothing in there that needs it to be corrected.

The reson the keep an eye on ph with corals is , they need enough oxygen and co2 , and calcium and alkalinity to stay healthy and grow.

Stop breathing!

What is your pH and how are you measuring it? Assuming alkalinity and calcium are good, the number one thing that impacts pH is Carbon Dioxide in the water. So your best bet is to reduce carbon dioxide in the water. One way you could do this is by running the air line for your skimmer outside, so it's drawing "clean" air. You could also run a CO2 scrubber, but this gets real expensive, real fast.

You could also help with pH by first using Kalk in you ATO. Or if you're a two part user, use sodium carbonate as your alk additive. Whatever you do, don't get fooled into using so-called pH boosters....these are just alkalinity products that will cause fluctuation in alkalinity.

I know Dr. Holmes Farley has a paper on this.....Low pH: Causes and Cures
