Hallo,

Maybe an odd question... But is it possible to use the lighting of Philips Hue for your reef tank with corals? I know Philips has it own Coral Care lights but they don’t really fit in my budget. Does anyone has experience with the Hue lighting?

Alot of problems may arise. The main one being dialing in actual wavelengths that correlate with the corals nutritional needs so you'll need not only a par meter but a pur meter to truly dial it in. These bulbs let you pick the color you want and the light auto adjusts it's rgb values to achieve it where in reef lights we choose the wavelengths we want and the color is just a byproduct. Would also be difficult to output multiple beneficial wavelengths at once. Might also have a problem with humidity.

Not saying it isn't possible in fact I'd love to see someone test this.

I love our Hue bulbs but I can't imagine that they could support any aquatic growth. Maybe for a fish only tank but at that point I think there are cheaper options that would be better suited.
