Fun fact: Luxeon UV is one of the most if not the most expensive single diode on the market. The lens does not degrade like other violets diodes in that spectrum.

The 6x Luxeon UVs on the Philips probably amount to half the cost of all diodes on the G5.

Ed. Oops just realized they went down to 6x Luxeon UV. My CC V1 had a boatload more haha.

Yeah cheapest I saw on Luxeon star was $20 each for the Z.

I have only seen one LED fixture for the hobby that actually has anything with UV spectrum in it and that was a 380nm.
I said earlier true UV leds cost more than fixtures cost now a days at least last time I looked which was a while ago which means they could be down.. 390nm I believe are affordable. I do not follow UV much because the work I do really does not deal with it..

Well, it’s not just paying for the hardware. It’s the R&D, warranty, customer service, being made in a country where workers are paid more than 50 cents an hour, continued application updates, etc. If people don’t want that, there is nothing wrong with going with a black box from eBay- they can also grow coral of course. Different strokes for different folks.

Metal halides produce UV so does fluorescent but not as much.
Shallow water SPS sit out of the water baking in UV. They produce colorful pigment and proteins as sunscreen to protect them from UV. Your defiantly not going to want to dump a bunch of UV on the tank but a little might help with those colors in some of the sps we keep..

I use a white T5 bulb on my planted tank which has a lot of UV. There's been studies that for plants it helps with combating some diseases which can cause them to die.

There's even a warning label on the bulb to not put your hand under it for more than 10 minutes at a time.

Even though the G5's recently came out, I'm not sure I'm impressed by it much. Maybe I tend to not follow the grain? However, these lights look really good, seem solid too. I'd rather choose Orphek over the Radion for some reason?

Between this light and the new ATI LED, they're the only two lights I would consider replacing my current Kessil/Orphek combo. I have a shallow and wide tank, so I really like having individual lights that I can move if necessary (being point-source), but if the Phillips has the shimmer, it may change my mind and prompt me to switch? We'll see how much they're going to cost?

I apologize if my post was off topic. I’ve been watching these lights for awhile. I was always wondering if they would grace our shores and if they would be affordable.

I’m also wondering how it’s going to compare to the orphek.
The light looks good and diffuser looks well designed.
They only have 6 different colors tho.
LEDs used are:

12x Luxeon C 470nm
22x Luxeon C 450nm
4x Luxeon C PC-Amber
4x Luxeon C Cyan (490nm)
6x Luxeon UV U1 415nm
20x Luxeon V2 6500k

I really like my orphek, I am curious how they will compare and possibly take the crown of best LED fixture (yes just my opinion!). It's nice to see the flat panel LED lighting continue to progress. They seem have to taken their time entering the US market, so hopefully they bring a solid option.

Not sure also most quality lights start at $580 is a blanket light like the orphek that’s about the same price. I’ll buy 3 if they are $700
The Ecotech xr30 is $850....

The video I saw had very dim shimmer.

I currently have 2 Aquamedic Angels and an old Maxspect Razor in the centre to provide a blancket of light over the whole tank.

Judging by the video, I could possibly replace the Maxspect but not the 2 Aquamedics Angels. These fixtures already combine the point light with diffuse lighting, but this last component could be stronger.

You can see the shimmer here. Not as epileptic fit inducing as the kessils. It also depends on the water movement at the surface.
