If we are biology, we must work with it for its own benefit, not against.

I've been deep in thought, and I was thinking of natural products like Vibrant, which is bacteria and vinegar, basically. What if our perspective of trying to rid algae was incorrect? What if, instead of Vibrant having the effect of "killing" the algae over time, the algae is recycled to other forms of life, thus effectively "killing" it?

I think that no matter what methods we employ, in the end, we are trying to make a self sustaining ecosystem within all of our tanks. Instead of tossing things in to kill other things... Why don't we "kill" the things we don't want by... recycling them for the other favorable inhabitants to use?

I'm playing with this as we speak, trying to "recycle" my GHA and Bryopsis into byproducts instead of trying to bomb the tank with things like.... Fluconazole all the time.

(This is a repost from my original in the reef chemistry section. Thought that I'd like to share this idea with my fellows that frequent this forum section as well.)

Good info and thanks for sharing. I just read a thread about hitting algae with boiling that was interesting. I love reading about different ideas of ridding algae.
