I lost my blastomussa to an alk spike last November. It was my favourite, so I took care of the skeleton. Today, 8 months later, I noticed a change. It looks to me like it is finally coming back! The picture isn't great, but do those look like new buds to you??

That's Awesome! We had the same thing happen to a large colony of pink Floyd chalice. Nothing but skeleton left after an alk spike. Months later my wife noticed a glowing speck and I thought nothing of it. It's growing back strong. I'll snap some before and afters tomorrow. Thanks for posting this update. Corals are amazing animals.

Please do!

I had the same thing occur with a frogspawn. I had a branching one with 2 heads. I lost both heads due to bad water quality, but left the skeleton in the tank. A few months later I noticed a green glowing dot that was only visible just before lights out. Eventually that dot grew into a head and today it is a softball sized colony with another colony that grew from a baby that it dropped off. It is a great feeling when you manage to turn it around before the coral completely dies.

Cool! I'm hoping my galaxea will still come back, but nothing yet...

Here's the pics of the chalice we lost but now is coming back via the phoenix effect. It grew from a one eye frag to a colony in about 4 years. Lost it in 4 days. Can't believe it's coming back.

Sorry for the blue pic, halides don't come on until 2.

That's impressive, pretty resilient!

The crazy thing is that the rock was just skeleton for months. I honestly would never have thought it would come back.

Yeah, same thing with my blasto. It was just another piece of rock/rubble.

Do you know which type of blasto it is, based on my original photo?
