Anyone had any experience with either of these? I'm battling a bit of macroalgae in the display and while I'm removing it by hand, I want to get rid of the PO4 fuel.
I tried one from a pool place. You have to be very careful. You can wipe your whole tank out. I dosed it into my overflow and then it was caught by the filter sock. I used SeaKlear. It was $29 for a 320z bottle. If you use the industrial stuff, you need to manually remove it. The chemical just binds it and it will settle in the tank. I put a brand new filter sock in my sump, dosed the LC and in 20 min my sock was overflowing.
If you want to try it, I can send you some. I have only dosed it 4 or 5 times to get mine under control. The vodka and vit c dosing has kept it in check. I only used 1ml for a dose on my 100 gal system.
That's what I'm thinking. Is the industrial that much stronger than the CaribSea products? I know I tried some of the Phos Buster Pro last night in the overflow and my skimmer went nuts. Any idea of if it would work the same way or would the sock be the only way you'd go?
I think the pool/industrial stuff has way more pure LaCl in it. and that is the reason for the difference. Some aquariums are using it and that is how it caught on. The consensus is that if you use the industrial stuff that you should use a filter sock or some other mechanical filter to remove it and add the product before the mechanical filter and not in the DT. The skimmer will remove some also. Even the ones from Caribsea and Bluelife say to wash filter sock immediatley. I had all kinds of info and can't find it now since I have not been using it. Some guy even had a diagram for a reaction chamber that he would drip the La Cl into it and keep it separate from the system.
The aquarium products by Caribsea and Bluelife have LaCl in them but a very small amount. I think those products are like $32 for 5oz and like I said the pool stuff is the same price for 32oz.
