I have noticed that over the last few months, a few of my SPS were slightly browning, yet still showing excellent polyp extension, and I started taking steps to get their color back. Those steps included increasing my lighting (even though I believe the lighting I had before was sufficient) as well as running PhosBan in my sump. My water parameters were very good prior to adding the PhosBan. Well, the colors have slowly but surely started coming back. However, a few of my zoanthid colonies have been suffering, apparently as a result of these steps.

I tend to think it's the PhosBan possibly making my water "too clean". The reasons I think this may be the case is because the algae in my algae turf scrubber has basically stopped growing, even receding. Also, the chaeto in my sump, while still very healthly looking, has also stopped growing.

I was testing zero on Salifert phosphates prior to adding PhosBan, but most salty veterans on this board have indicated that it's impossible to know your phosphate levels w/o using a meter like Hanna.

While I'm happy with the return of color to my SPS, it's tough to see my zoas suffering as a result. I guess it's possible that the additional lighting is what's bringing back the color in my SPS, but it's hard to say.

I'm leaning toward removing the PhosBan from my system to see what happens, but I'd appreciate any thoughts or shared experiences on this subject.

Thanks

i have been running phosban in my frag tank that is all zoas for about 2-3 months now and have not seen any ill effects from it.

i run it in my nano and it seems ok for me. i would check you other parameters, like Ca, Mg, and Alk. expecially Alk.
i know high or low ALK, or alk swings will do that to corals as well. get a Alk test kit and test it 3x a day and see if your reading are drifting.
i lost a ton of sps and zoas to alk swings.

I used to run a phosban reactor 24/7 on my tank no issues. Just took it down to replace hoses and re-route it through the tank.

Phosban reactor & zoa reactions

Same here - use a 3littlefishies reactor with phosban and have been doing so for many months without issue. I know it's overkill, but also use a phospate sponge (by Kent Marine and it's really white pellets) in my media basket.

I run GFO without ill effect.
Jcom, did you feed your corals ? Is your tank consider Ultra Low Nutrient System (ULNS)?
The coral's coloration has to do with food too.
I agreed with Ericm1205. could be the swing in ALk.
