I bought a new media chamber and some PhosBan media the other day. Yesterday, I was talking to another reefer and he said he preferred BioPellets. He says it’s a more natural way to control nutrients, etc.

Can you guys weigh in on this? Which is better?

Phosban is like gfo. It takes up phosphates only.
Biopellets is a carbon source or food for bacteria. As the bacteria break down the biopellets for carbon it takes up nitrates and phosphates. Then this bacteria is exported via protein skimmer.
Simply they are different ways of nutrient control.

Is the more “natural “way better? I guess, if you only want to control nitrates, you’d use PhosBan. If you want to remove both, you’d use BioPellets.
