I asked this question in the filtration section yesterday bUT did not get any response so I wanted to post it here.
I will be buying me a phosphate and a carbon reactor in the near future how many gallons per hour should I be pushing through these two reactors also what carbon and what gfo do you recommend. I can post pics of the reactors that I'm buying if that will help I have a 90 gallon tank and will beupgrading my son to a 40-gallon breeder in the near future I just have to build itfirst

For your GFO reactor, you want as much flow as it takes to gently tumble the top layer of it. You do not want it to aggressively tumble because the GFO is soft and will crumble, creating fines that will enter your tank.

The carbon is even softer than the GFO, so you want even less flow with no tumbling through it.

Sounds great the directions for the reactor said to use about 150 GPH pump but back it down with the included ball valve to about 20 or 30 this helps a lot thank you

I recommend using brs regular GFO along with ROX 0.8 carbon been using it for years i change both out every 30 days. As for flow the in the gfo reactor just needs to be enough to get a consistent tumble but not enough to grind the gfo up you will need to add a inline valve to adjust that flow. The carbon reactor isnt so important its recommended to put at minimum your tanks water volume per hour but it wouldnt hurt to use something like a maxi jet 1200. I would also say use sponges in your carbon reactor to hold it in place. Best of luck

Just out of curiosity, what's the problem? I'm assuming you are using RO/DI water, so are you overstocked, overfeeding, maybe LARS etc?

Considering that RO/DI water is probably the purest you can get, it's amazing sometimes how many people are having problems with algae growth... It's got to be human error, right?
