Looking for opinions of which is the best/most reliable test kit to use as I've had two rounds of Hanna checkers fail me so need to try something new to measure phosphates in the tanks.

I am a strong proponent of the ELOS Phosphate Pro ("High Sensitivity") test kit. In my experience reading the forums, the two basic answers to the Phosphate test kit question are the Hanna Checker and the ELOS kit (or one of its equivalents, such as the no-longer-available D-D Merck). If you are dissatisfied with the Hanna checker, then I suggest the ELOS kit.

You also? I'm on my second Hanna that reads 0 no matter what I test

Exactly my issue with the second one I just got. Frustrating because I really liked the idea of doing the test and getting a number output rather than comparing colors as in other tests. Thanks for the replies of other suggestions.

Mine too showed 0.00 all across the boards but I double checked it with the Salifert and it seems pretty accurate. It did manage to get to 0.05 once. Not sure if they are accurate but seems ok.

Which Hanna were you using?

Assuming it was working correctly, my pick would be the Hannah 736 checker, but some folks have had issues with it.

I use the Hannah 736 with good results, but when I first was using it I did trust the results so I picked up Hannah's HI736-11 which has two prefilled liquid to test the calibration of the Hannah 736... And my Hannah checker was correctly calibrated...

Just curious how you know it has "failed"? I get mostly 0.00's on mine as well, but don't necessarily think it's wrong. I'm not necessarily convinced it's right either.

First unit I got constantly threw the errors of too high water sample or too low regardless of how precise my sample was to the required line. Using that test, the few times I actually got it to work, I had phosphate levels in each of my tanks (3 different setups not connected to each other). A few weeks later I got the replacement tester and now every test I do gives 0.00 and basing it off of my tests a few weeks back and the visual look of the tank (some algae and film on glass) I feel there should be measurable levels. I would love to be wrong and be at 0.00 :)

I'm going to review the recommendations above and pick 1-2 other tests and see where things are at.
