is it true that phosphate level 0.1 ppm would help your corals and avoid Dino algae together with 10ppm nitrate?

different question, are you guys keep light on over the sump? if so, why? (without chito...)

You do not want zero phosphate or nitrate. This can lead to dinos and you'll also starve your corals unless you are feeding them. Many people try to keep their PO4 under .1ppm to keep algae under control. Some also say it's better for SPS coloration to keep nutrients low but this is highly debatable as several very successful tanks have high nutrients levels.

That is what I was thinking.
but Phosphate level can cause nuisance algae as far as I know

what is a good testing kit for phosphate ?

I just got the new Hanna Ultra low level phosphate kit; a bit chintzy on the reageant pouches, good otherwise.

The Hanna ULR is what I've used for years. The only way to go for phosphate testing. I also use the Hanna for testing alkalinity and highly recommend that. Super quick and easy. Don't waste your time counting drops and trying to determine color changes for alkalinity.

The one I just got was supposed to be new. Phosphate as opposed to phosphorous?

Nice. I have the phosphorus. Hanna tests for phosphate is the only way to go. You can't really measure phosphate very successfully with any other kit

@ca1ore it is quite hilarious you bring this up. I just received new reagents from BRS. After your post I thought hmmmm. Just checked and sure enough I ordered the wrong ones. I have a box of reagents for your unit! Duh.

Apparently the new one fixes the old issue of the unit shutting off prior to the reageant mixing up.

Awesome. That's a real pain. I have a process and as soon as it displays c2 I start a 3 minute timer to "beat the clock"

I lost you guys, there is a new Hanna tester and old version?
Can anyone give me BRS link or the new one please?

What type of food is the one who can raise phosphate level? should I just over feed the fish?
