Phosphate minus in a carbon reactor

I have a small lifeguard carbon reactor for my 75 gal tank. Im getting a little algae so I used 3 small scoops of Phosphate Minus with my carbon on this refill. My prob stupid question is there is a sponge on both ends of reactor to keep carbo in but it seems to me like the GFO is small enough grains some can get through the sponge? I rinsed it good until it ran clear in fresh RO water. When I first turn it on I put a clear glass under it and get a few GFP specs then it goes clear again.

I assume those sponges are the norm on carbon reactors and this is fine?

You want to move the sponges around in the tube to give the media different space to tumble as well.

The fine particles through go through when you flush it but I would think the sponges are fine enough to stop the GFO, if not you should buy some sponge and cut some for it that will stop the GFO

GFO needs slow flow thru the reactor, You can use the sponges that came with your reactor. The sponges are the same for carbon or GFO. If you want less of a mess, put the stuff in a media bag and put that in your reactor.

ok so I think im ok I will let it run for a week then change it out to straight carbon.
