I have a innovative marine Nuvo EXT 40, I love the Nuvo line just ordered the 100 gallon, the issue with this tank was the sump, impossible to find a sump with a refugium that can also have a decent size skimmer in it. I bought a Somatic sump/skimmer combo and re designed the sump to how it should have been sold. I was going to build my own sump but got a good deal on a somatic. I plumbed the tanked added a manifold with three outlets for expansion later on. I have no experiencing plumbing an aquarium but it turned out good. I added a UV sterilizer, Apex system Doser,ATK, ect. I does Alk, Calc and mag at the times decided by my Trident. My levels are Alk 8.2, CA 412, MG 1288, PH 8.0, Sal 1.026 and Temp 79.1F all other levels were 0. I have a Hydra 26HD on from 10am to 6pm twilight from 6pm to 10am daily, light is programmed to moon phazes, My skimmer is plumbed to outside air. I do water changes 1x p/week and half water every 30 days or so depending. I have mixed reef, birds nest, Acropora, Leathers, Mushroom Corals, Zoanthids, Hammers, frogstone, crocea clam ect. Most I bought in poor health and in a few weeks in my tank they were healthy and thriving. I used coral dip acclimated as per instructions for that particular coral, even dipped in iodine to get my flower pot corals alive. Id say id put lots of money into this hobby as it amazes me . I am also a recreational diver so I see them in their natural environment. So now you have the history here is my issue.
I woke up the other day and went to my tank as I usually do and noticed someting worng and not normal and make me choke, my once thriving birdsnest coral was completely bleached, 9 hrs ago it was full of neon green polyps, there was i light coat of brown algae on glass, my prized tiger banded goby dead, my flower pots retracted looking like puddy. I immediately began looking for any wire issues, leaks anything that may point me to what happend, I looked at the apex all levels were fine, heater fine UV sterilizer light was off but plugged in. I removed and set aside. nothing else seemed to be an issue. I pulled apart the UV sterilizer and it had leaked causing the bulb to brown out. (coralife twist) I then broke out the test kit. Phos 2.0, amonia 0.25 Nitrate 0. Nitrite 0. I havent checked my levels for two months as everytime i did they were perfect. My Refugium is packed with thick chaeto and loads of copepods seen crawling everywhere, how could this happen and what to do to get things stable. I did a water change no change, I purchased Chemi Pure blue, Seachem Phosguard and Kent marine essential elements and started my Phos reactor with half the dosage of Biopellets. 24r later Phos at 0, amonia 0, and so on. Everyting appears to be healthy again but I still dont know what caused this to go so extreme, any ideas ?
I would assume my Birdsnest wont be returning, I fragged a couple of pieces but they have not come back

I lean more toward a chemical thing. Can you get a polyfilter?

Hi Reef Lover, my levels are all back to 0 Phos 0.1ish. what would poly do?

Did you say your UV leaked, causing the bulb to pop? If water got into the connection it’s possible that the electricity fried the tank. Was it on a GFCI?

What test kits are you using? That is a gigantic range. You want phos between 0.02-0.08, never zero. With that test kit you are using I don’t see how you could keep track of your nutrients at all.
Using a coralife UV on a tank with your equipment is like putting Volkswagen Beetle pistons in a Lamborghini, you should of went with a pentair my friend.

All run through the APEX power bar, nothing tripped no sign of failure other than the light out

Polyfilter removes metals and other contaminants...

I did not know that, not sure how I would run that in my tank but i could think of something, im running chem pure now and my phos reactor not pictured and everything appears fine

Hey Hemmdog, I am using salifert phosphate test kit, my level as of today is 0.5. Are you referring to a water filtration system ? I currently have one installed since before I was into aquariums. I have heard people with 1.5+ phos in their tank and everything still healthy. As I am fairly new in still learning about water chemistry.
