I have been battling low nutrients for a few months now (dinos too) and I have been able to raise my nitrates up to 3-5 ppm in my 75G tank with 30G sump. I am using Neophos to raise my nutrients and according to the instructions, I should add about 45ml of Neophos to get to .03ppm.
I have been using Neophose for about 6-8 weeks now and about 3 weeks ago, the tank was steady at .04. But then I left for a few days and ever since, it has not been able to get back up to that point. No dosing during that time I was out of town.
I have about 60lbs of LR, 20lbs of LS (removed quite a bit due to dinos) and 9 small/med fish. Corals: 16 medium sized LPS/softies.
Turned off the skimmer, reduced WC, running GAC in a bag for dino toxins and I even added a 55W Jeboa UV light with a 250GPH mini pump. And I have been feeding heavily too.
Here is my problem: I have been dosing from 80-120ml of Neo per day and my Hanna still reads 0.0. Typically, I dose about 20-30ml x 3-4 times per day Every once in a while, I will dose 40 ml and test 10 minutes afterward and I will get a reading of around .02 but two hrs later, back to zero.
I understand the rocks/sand/corals will take up a lot of the phosphate, but 120ml sounds pretty high for no results over this period of time. I am hoping the Neophos instructions are for a bare tank w no rocks or sand but I am not sure. Anybody out there dosing these large amounts? Any ideas on why my tank is not showing an increase in phosphate?
Can GAC hold phosphate like the rocks....is it hindering the increase of phosphate in the tank?
Thanks in advance.
