Phosphate Reactor should i diy or buy one

The downside to doing this is that GFO and Carbon require different flow rates. Carbon should be tumbling within the reactor, while GFO should have lower flow, allowing water to pass through the GFO while remaining settled at the bottom of the reactor. With the dual setup from BRS, I don't know if you can regulate the flow in each chamber, so it may difficult to find a pump that suits your needs. Anyone who owns this reactor, please chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

i have the brs dual.
yes you cant adjust flow between chambers with how it comes, but you do not want gfo to settle! it should be moving at a slow rate. carbon should be moving at an even slower rate.
if you watch the video from brs they will you right off about the dual and the singles. i can attest to that the dual does work, does not leak easy to work with.

oh yes and the way its built you could make it individually adjustable with some fittings and a turn of the canisters

if you must use a single media reactor, use DFS phospure plus zeolite and carbon. it works well and cheaper than using carbon+gfo from brs.

Thanks Nixer... poor explanation on my part. The GFO shouldn't settle because it will essentially turn into a brick. It needs a slight tumble, but if you have the flow too high, the fine particles will pass through the sponge into your tank. (Althought most manufacturers claim this is not a problem, I certainly don't want a rust colored coating to settle on my sandbed) I've always run my carbon with pretty high flow. Everything I've read has explained that Carbon will work better with heavy flow so that it has more water volume passing through it. Should I throttle down the flow through the carbon in my reactor?!?! :ooh:
