How's it going guys, I have a 20 gallon reef tank that is coming along nicely. The tank is 3 months old and already growing beatiful coral. My only issue is, it is also growing green hair algae, so i'm thinking of getting a phosphate reactor. Do i need a phosphate reactor for a tank that is 20 gallons in size or could i just insert some phosphate remover directly in to my filter, is that possible? I have a HOB filter. If i can't do that, would you guys mind sharing a link of a pretty inexpensive phosphate reactor from an acreditted website? I have looked on ebay but a lot of the phosphate reactors on there don't come equipped with everything, they all say "pump sold seperately." So maybe a link towards a phosphate reactor that comes included with everything i will need to set it up. Thanks again guys.

With the size of the system and filtration I would suggest adding the phosphates media to you existing filter.

bulk reef supply sells the kits for a phosban 150 that comes with hose clamps pump. Everything except the actual gfo. You could just add a media bag with GFO to your hang on filter as well.

Ok guys every when should i change the GFO media bag from my filter?

Yours is a relatively small system; suggest you start with half the recommended dose. It can shock a system, especially upon first starting, but even when replacing exhausted media.

The ability for GFO to adsorb PO4 is depleted very quickly; more quickly than most realize I think - days or weeks as opposed to months, for sure.

Maybe you could share your feeding regime? This is always relevant as it relates to GFO.
