Actually the newer HI774 checker is a better option than the HI736, because the 774 displays the phosphate reading directly. The 736 displays the phosphorus reading, and then you have to do math (or look up on a chart) to figure out what the phosphate reading is.

I use the HI774 and it seems pretty good.

I also found the Red Sea Phosphate Pro kit pretty easy to use as well, if you want a more traditional kit. It uses a blue color which I find I can "see" pretty well. YMMV.

Its not like basic known multiplication is hard, multiply by 3.066 then DIVIDE NOT MULTIPLY by 1000 to convert to ppm, simples.
