Phosphates need advice

Yes, as far as I understand it, a protein skimmer will help get crud (do you like that technical term? lol) out of the water, which should help with phosphates.

Folks make hang on refugia that sit outside of the tank and those work great. A hang inside of the tank box would do the same job, just takes up space in your tank. If there is flow in your tank, you might not need the air + airline to create water movement into the box?

You could just get a cheap HOB filter assembly and put your media in there instead of the filter. The supplied power head will push water through the media.

Was actually thinking the same thing what would you stock it with? I heard putting sand a live rock and chateo on top with a small light would be good any idea

You could do that if it’s large enough

Small water changes regularly
Feed Sparingly
Utilize chaeto and other methods such as an algae scrubber
Utilize phosphate absorbing resins such as PhosZorb or NPX
