can anyone tell me why my phosphates keep going up and down? Last night I tested 3 times and they were 5ppb out of the GFO reactor 8ppb in the sump and 9ppb in display. I tested again this morning because I know I have a phosphate leaching problem and they were back up to 38ppb. Any help would be appreciated! These phosphates are holding me up from getting corals into this tank. Iv never had such an ongoing phosphate issue!

Could be test kit error. I can test three times in a row with Hanna and get three widely varying numbers.

I wouldn't let a little phosphate stop you from putting coral in the tank. I might check mine every 6 months. Last time I checked it was .25 or 80ppb.

Hanna has a ±0.04 ppm (mg/L) or ±4% of reading. So if your values are within this window, I would add and average to give you a more accurate result.

Are you using a hanna tester?
This is anecdotal but I know little inconsistencies with water level and powder reagent makes a difference in the ppb reading.
For me it was a 10 to 15 point swing.

What is your hesitation in regards to phosphates?

Yes I am using the Hanna ULR checker these results have gone up and down for the past 3 months since I started the tank. I know phosphates are rediculouly high because about an hour after iv cleaned the glass the glass is dirty again.
