phosphates question.

That's the target for many, still few can achieve it so I'd say its not the normal but very possible.

What is a way to get it up slightly mind you I just started first fish went in today after the cycling was over with

IMO, don't add phosphates. Once you get fish and start feeding them, you will have phosphates. Plus, what kit are you using to measure? Some kits do not have enough resolution to measure phosphates in a reef. Unless the kits can measure below 1ppm, you wasted your money.

Im using a Hanna checker

If. It was absolute 0, there. Would be not functioning bacterial ecosystem in the tank! Ide check your equipment or recalibrate

Sorry, not true. My tank stays at zero most of the time. Sometimes I can get it go up to .04. The Hannahs are a good test for phophates.

Hana Checkers have an error of +\- .04.... If my memory is right. I have one and my 180 tests at 0. Like someone said, you add fish and start feeding you will have Phospates. Since your tank is so new...just don't overfeed....and watch for algae. Don't overreact... It is part of the tank maturing. I just got through a post cycle stage of algae in my new 180..... I just let it take its course.....and then fox face and tomini tang took care of business.

absolute zero is 0.. Not 0 ppt or ppm or ppb.. When I read absolute zero I took it as |0| misinterpretation my apologies!

I have all LPS right now and phosphate is 0.03. Do you know what Lobos, Acans and Favias prefer?
Your on the mark there, you could let it bounce a bit and they'd still be good.

My Hanna always reads zero and I have no idea why. I have to clean the glass twice a week so must have phosphates. Also get zero with red sea test.

If there is a good amount of algae growing in the tank, it will consume the phosphates so the tests will read zero. I am dealing with HA and my checker still reads 0 most of the time.
