How do you guys keep your phosphates down. I checked my levels today and it was at .25 ppm. I do have chaeto in my refugium. Any help would be awesome.

I have the same problem but I use BRS GFO in my sump and need to put it in a reactor. I hope this helps.

Are you using RO/DI water? Also how often do you do a water change and how much do you feed? Do you have a skimmer running?

Sorry for all the questions. :D

Have you tested nitrates?
If you have nitrates also run Biopellets of not run GFO.

See I run biopellets and have zero nitrates but phosphate want go below .25. I was told to try GFO in a reactor instead of my sump. My tank has been running for 4 years.

I have 2.5 Nitrates, I use RO water, I work for a dialysis company and we make our own water that is cultured constantly. I have checked the source water as well, and it has 0 phosphates. This water is mixed directly into patients blood, so it's good. I don't have a sump, but I have a HOB refugium, this is only a 20g tank. I would love to add a reactor though if it's possible and if it will help.

Nitrates that high it is a wonder anything grows other than algae. My guess I to start doing more water changes and try cutting back on feeding. Your right it would be hard to add some reactors to a 20g but some gfo would still help. You could look into carbon dosing like vodka or vinager. Until they come out with nano reactors that is the only thing I can think of. I hope it helps.

You should look into running some purigen and chemi pure elite in your HOB filter. I do this on my sumpless 10 gallon tank, and have no detectable phosphates or nitrates.

Also when you feed the frozen mysis, you should rinse them with clean fresh water to thaw them out, they are packed full of phosphates.

Rinsing food imo isn't worth it. Randy holmes farley has an article talking about it and when u break it down its not much. So usual phos test consists of a cube in a cup of water and people read 3ppm phos and are like holy cow. Lets do some math. 16 cups per gallon x10g= 160cups. 3ppm phos ÷ 160 = .01875 po4 added to 10gal in a 100g system its .001875 not really a lot.

If it's in there, I'm not going to add it, no matter how little.

Take off your prefilter on your RODI, it wont add too :neutral:much TDS....

They do have nano hang on the back reactors .... Reef octo released one and I think CPR maybe has one ??? Not sure I looked at both of these options for my tanks.

Yes they are available. But can't remember who makes them.

Don't be lazy! Rinse your food your fish will like it without all the Dirty Water that is in the Cubes without rinsing them. It pays off in the long run, I have done this for as long as frozen cubes have been out and my Po4 is very low and every little bit helps...... Rinse It!
