Phyto with dinos/diatoms

Hi there,

Dinoflagellates and diatoms thrive when there are high nutrient levels.

While water changes and chemical filtration can help reduce nutrient buildup, they're not ideal long-term solutions because they're costly and can remove beneficial substances. Using algaecides is generally discouraged, as they can harm both good and bad organisms.

A better approach is to add live, beneficial microalgae (phyto) to your tank. These good algae consume excess nutrients, starving out harmful dinoflagellates and diatoms while providing food for other tank inhabitants. Products like Ocean Magik can effectively reduce nutrient levels. Adding copepods is also beneficial, as they feed on organic waste and algae, helping keep the tank clean. The phyto not only reduces harmful algae but also feeds the copepods, creating a balanced and healthy ecosystem. Copepods, in turn, serve as a natural food source for fish and other creatures, promoting a thriving and healthy aquarium environment.
