Hello

I turned my led lights on max on my new culture. I tested the temp and it said 87degrees. Is this too hot for phyto ? I tried looking online but it mostly talks about too low of temps. Do I need to turn down my lights so it doesn’t warm my phyto water so much ? Thanks.

From what I’ve been told and read you probably shouldn’t get over 82-84. Better in the 70’s. I’m just starting a culture and those are the numbers I was given by the person who sold me my starter cultures and what I found online. I think too hot and you can kill off some of them.

Thanks yea It did seem a little too warm. I ended up turning the lights down a little bit so it should lower the temp. I’m shocked there isn’t more online about max temp. How old is your culture? Mines is on day 4. It finally is starting to look greener. I only used 16 oz phyto for 1 gallon of water.

I run my cultures at room temp and they come out just fine. Just make sure you have good bright light and mixx the cultures regularly.

I just started mine Friday night around 8 so 2 1/2 days. Think they might be changing a little. Pictures outside of the tote where day one as I was told to ease them up on lights and mine aren’t dimmable. Other pics are today. Here’s a link to my thread.

Yea mines are at room temp too but the led lights are causing all the heat. I’m not running a heater. Do you like to harvest early ? Just looks a little lighter than some I see that are super dark. Any reason? I’m just learning.

Very neat idea in the tub. I’ll check out your post.

I see you were dealing with too high of temps too haha.

what kind and how many lights are you using to heat up the water so much?

They really don't need much light at all, even putting your culture on the window sill will make it grow

I typically run mine for 7 days then pull sometimes a little longer but if I want them darker I'm sure adding a little heat will help but based of what I purchased from the algea barn the density is pretty much the same

I really cranked down the lights. It’s similar light the Poseidon uses. I got them off amazing. Wrapped completely around the jar. I dimmed it to probably 40 % instead of 100. I’ll recheck the temp tomorrow after lights have been on 16 hours.

Great to know. I’m approaching day 4 and it’s getting noticeable darker. I read you can crash it if you wait too long to harvest.

I had this exact problem with the Poseidon lights. With the wrapping around the jars, they can get really hot. I moved them to a cooler area which helped a lot.

Yea I ended up turning the lights down with the dimmer. It’s working great now. I think it was overkill having the lights on max too. The temp now doesn’t go over 79 degrees. Although it’s not Poseidon, I have the same setup just diy.
