If it's live viable phyto product, then you can culture it. Many phyto products in a bottle are preserved and not viable.
 
I bought some nanochloropsis and isochrysis from aquaculturenurseryfarms over a year ago and its still going strong, it made it through the summer and winter in San Diego with no temperature control sometimes I have to wait an extra week for it to get the right color before harvesting. Technology didn't work for me I leave it outside in moderate sunlight with an airline and try to remember to additionally stir it a few times a week, before that when I tried a reactor with timed light etc it always crashed regardless of where I purchased it.
