Can I grow phyto from a bottle of phyto or do I need a phyto culture as well as the fertilizer?

You can grow it in any container, I have mine outside in the sun in an old sun tea container however you will need an airstone and a light source in order for it to grow. Fertilizer will definitely help it grow. Here is a helpful link. culturing-phytoplankton.59497

If it's live viable phyto product, then you can culture it. Many phyto products in a bottle are preserved and not viable.

I was able to get a culture going for about 2 weeks from algae barn before it died of neglect.

I bought some nanochloropsis and isochrysis from aquaculturenurseryfarms over a year ago and its still going strong, it made it through the summer and winter in San Diego with no temperature control sometimes I have to wait an extra week for it to get the right color before harvesting. Technology didn't work for me I leave it outside in moderate sunlight with an airline and try to remember to additionally stir it a few times a week, before that when I tried a reactor with timed light etc it always crashed regardless of where I purchased it.
