What do you guys use to grow Phytoplankton? I do not have F2 available, so lookng for an alternative please.

You can order the f2 for Mercer of Montana on Amazon. I’ve heard you can use miracle grow, but I don’t know the dose.

Due to the Covid 19 I cannot order online, so I will have to use some sort of alternative to F2.

Check out algaebarn. I just ordered a bunch of things from them including some "OceanMagik". But my current population is from IPSF. I keep them alive in the DT garden, at least think lol. I can see them on the glass that's also next to a plant in the garden. They are white and very small (sewing needle head) and I can see they move around. Now I added them over 3 weeks ago and they are very much alive in my tank, at this point they must be populating themselves. I can't imagine these critters live very long.

Forgot to mention that I am in South Africa, so I unfortunately do not have access to algaebarn

Just in my skimmer cup can see them crawling around the side. If I wasn't so far away I'd give you some of mine.

Look up miracle grow and phyto. I haven't used it (I have F2) but I recall it being mentioned being acceptable, it should be available on a number of open store shelves

Read up on how top dilute it in saltwater before adding. It's strong stuff and can ruin the culture is added directly.

Any other suggestions?

You will need a live sample of phyto algae to get it started. An example you are looking for is nannochloropsis. There are other options for fertilizers once you have a live sample (e.g. micacle grow but that also adds phosphates). Do you have a local fish store that will sell a small bottle for pickup? You might also be able to find another local hobbiest in your area on Facebook that has their own cultures & would be willing to sell or share a starter.
