Phytoplankton

Have never dosed phytoplankton in years

do you-recomended brand-how many tines do you dose?
I dose 10 mls of @Dinkins Aquatic Gardens once a day in my 20 gallon. I do it to feed pods and my little filter feeders, I also forgot what the recommend amount is but every batch has instructions

We recommend 5ml per 10 gallons 3 times a week. As for brands look for DARK green phyto (many are light green which means not very dense and/or healthy) and try and get from source that is trusted. You want to ensure phyto is cultured in sanitary conditions and using proper amounts of fertilizer so you dont send your tank into a tail spin. Reach out if you have other questions, happy to answer if we can!

Any idea how to check if the phyto has consumed all the fertilizer? I haven't bought a secchi stick and gone down the road of monitoring density. I was hoping for an easier method to keep my cultures running with a little less maintenance and work.

Also I'm using a UV sterilization chamber to clean the primary culture water and feet (.5L flask) I'm concerned that's still not enough and I'm getting contamination. Is bleaching and neutralizing required to keep a clean culture in your experience?

Hello, testing if all f/2 has been consumed you test the nitrates of the culture, if zero or close to zero then it has depleted the f/2. You can use nitrate test strips suitable for marine water to take a quick test, its really that simple!

As for sterilization of your tools/vessels, yes you want to clean them each time as you just never know. Never reuse a vessel for another strain of anything, keep it for that one thing only. Yes you can keep running a healthy culture almost indefinitely but for home growers its pretty difficult due to lack of air filtration and sterile techniques.
