Our March collections yielded a very low number of Picassos and Platinums so it's time to put our broodstock back to work! This was their third clutch since they resumed spawning activities and I'll be documenting the full development of this batch.

The spawn event took place between 6:30PM and 9:30PM on Saturday, September 22, 2012. A new rotifer culture was started on Friday that should be ready to go for hatch night early next week.

Cool, good luck with them! They have a nice spawning spot there, great looking parents too, hopefully you get some sweet looking little ones!

Awesome!!! I just got a baby yesterday. Im deciding if i want another or if i want to get another type of designer. Platinum or black onyx...idk. i love these guys, yours are especially nice looking. I like the dark parts. Im trying to get a good pic of mine. The black on the white bat by his head literally has a jagged edge that looks soo cool. Go picasso!

Thats awesome hopefully this batch does better for you!

Thanks! The batch did fine, just got unlucky with the designer genetics. We want to see some Racoons this time!

Thanks! The frogspawn provides excellent cover and the eggs get excellent water flow around them.

Beautiful pictures good luck bro!

Thanks! I'll keep the pics coming!

Awesome photos ! Cant wait to see the babies!

Thanks! I'm looking forward to documenting the entire development.

The video was great!!! Good luck with them!!!

Thanks! I've really been meaning to up the production quality of my videos and I thought this was a good start. Did you know you could modify .mov files in Windows Live Movie Maker now? You couldn't in the old version and I spent half the day trying to convert the file or playing with an apple product. Fun stuff.

WHAT camera are you using for the pics? very nice!

Thanks! My family got me a Nikon D3100 last year for my birthday. Both the pictures and the video were taken with the "auto" setting and no adjustments at all. The pictures look better because I tricked the camera into using a flash which forces the proper color spectrum. I need to work on the video settings. Having a hard time setting the white balance and brightness.

Very nice!!! Thank you for sharing the pics and video!

Thanks and you're welcome!

Thanks! Yeah, I think you are talking about the Picasso "sideburns". A lot of Picassos, especially ones that originally came from ORA and Doni have that look. You can mix any of the Percula varients together very easily. I've paired Onyx, Platinums and Picassos, the fish really don't care about looks. They know they are the same species.

It's day 8 and the eggs are not ready to hatch. They've got eyes so I know they were fertilized properly but their color hasn't shifted to silver. I believe my water temperature is closer to 78 in this house whereas it was closer to 82 in my old apartment. That could delay hatch night for up to 4 days... Long story short, I won't be collecting tonight.

I prepared two new fry tanks this weekend. Got them painted, leak tested and they've been sterilized. Now it's just a matter of time.

Yeah, the sideburns are SWEET! we named him MUTTON CHOPS Now. I got him a mate, A misbar Ocellaris. They paired up instantly. I made sure the Oc was larger when i picked it out, Her name is Ms. Bar....lol I will be mating them as well, when they mature. How large were your clowns when they started mating?

My first 3 pairs came from doni. At the time, she was selling fish that were approximately 4-5 months old (very, very young).

The first spawn occured 437 days after I got them. That puts them right at 1.5 years old. But I've heard of males being able to fertilize under 1 year old.

nice pair, keep up the good work....im in the waiting process to see what my super snowflake male and picasso female produce, anxious and it's barely day 5!!! arrgggg good luck btw with your %'s....

:ooh: do you know the hours and minutes since acquisition too? haha totally kidding. Beautiful pair

Just a final update, I decided against collecting this spawn. The remaining eggs had really thinned out in number and it was a split hatch over two nights. The Picassos spawned again a few days later and I was much happier with the appearance of that clutch. I'll make a new thread to document that attempt. Or better yet, I'll just put it into the old Picasso Clownfish Breeding Project thread. I haven't updated that thing in months!
