Picked up a red sea max nano

Sounds like fun.I am not that familiar with these All in one systems. If it's anything like what I have at home, you may want to buy an additional pump for circulation. Also be certain to have accurate thermometer for the tank.Small aquariums may overheat.I will ask #REEFSQUAD for more recommendations.

I had the ole Red Sea 130 (all in one).
Used to buy upgrades from In Tank Media for that little guy.

As far as the newer Nano goes, Tagging along for the ride :)

I have one and have not done anything different to it, they are nice little tanks. If I would change one thing it would be to add an ATO with a larger reservoir, the one included needs filled more often then I prefer to do lol.

ReefQueen,
Thanks for the post!!!

I've got to admit, Red Sea sure has come along ways in their "all in ones" since the original 130.

Red sea craftsman ship on there tanks is awesome and customer service is also
I love there stands that was a big selling point for me
Totally agree!!!

Congrats on your new Nano ;Woot ;Woot

I wasn't impressed with the ato but at least it had one

true, I know none of my other tanks had an ATO included lol. One of my LFS had one set up as a display and they used the one included plus a tunze nano ato. they had the sensor in the RS top off resovior and the RO in a bucket in the stand. They only issue I see with that is I get some type of HA that grows in my top off reservoir and clogs the hole. It's only a few strands and never grows anywhere else but where the hole is. It's odd, but I just pull it out with tweezers every so often.

Vivid Aquariums has a long series on setting up a Max 170. Designed for someone new to the hobby, but it's a well done YouTube Series.

What's your take on the skimmer as far as function and noise?

I actually don't have an issue with the skimmer NOW. Originally I thought it was noisy, but once it broke in I get decent skimate and the noise doesn't bother me. I have it right next to "my" side of the couch and I don't have any problems watching TV at a normal volume.

Glad to hear the skimmer is not noisy and does skim.
The red sea is a upgrade from my 4 year old 8 gallon

Haha I upgraded mine from an 8 gallon too! You will definitely like having the extra space, and the tank and stand are just down right sexy! depending on what you keep you may want more flow, I added an mp10 to mine just for some extra movement.

I went with the Red Sea Reefer. The biggest change I made was the light, originally I went with the Prime HD but I did not like the coverage, I switched to the Maxspect Ethereal 130w Aquarium LED Light and ICV6 Controller Bundle Package which seems to have been discontinued? (surprised). The coverage is great and it has enough power for any SPS. I went with an upgraded return pump to 750gph and for the power head I am using an Aqamai KPS Wifi Controllable Wavemaker Pump which works great.

You will be neding a screen cover, try a Tsunami Lid from Artfully Aacrylic, just be sure to order the correct back piece, it will cost you extra.
