So, needless to say, Im super pumped. I just picked up a used jbj cube 20+ gallon tank. Ive been reading and watching videos like a mad man and I still feel like there is an overwhelming amount of info to be learned. With that said, i decided to just go for it and get my feet wet. I came across this tank. It was PACKED with algae, so much so, i couldn't see thru the water when i went to the sellers house.
I had to give away the 2 clownfish and I'm starting the tank over. .....wish me luck.
The tank has since been cleaned out, next i plan to make a decent size order (on amazon or wherever you folks recommend) for extra supplies and then i'll begin stripping algae from the rock and curing it. I have a basic idea what i need to do. If anyone wants to throw any tips at me, I'll gladly take them! I look forward to learning from the forum.

Btw, my long term goal.....to learn a great deal more knowledge and put together a triple digit gallon reef tank.
Just getting started with this nano setup.

By the way, I have to ask, from one bearded dragon lover to another, what's the little guy/girls name?

I would say use hydrogen peroxide in freshwater to kill all the stuff on the rock then just freshwater to get rid any remaining peroxide. For starting bacteria I would use Biospira or Prodibio Biodigest. The Biodigest is good stuff and keep in mine that the Biodigest also converts Nitrate into Nitrogen Gas so don't be surprised if Nitrates don't show up when using Prodibio Biodigest. Prime by SeaChem can be used to detoxify high Nitrates and Ammonia when cycling a tank. Bulk Reef Supply, Marine Depot, Saltwater Aquarium, or ordering through your LFS with price matching are all great options for supplies. Bulk Reef Supply has great videos on Youtube to learn about many areas of the hobby. Start slow and be patient unlike most of us. Be careful no to scratch the tank, buy good equipment not cheap stuff...you usually get what you pay for in this hobby.

Welcome to R2R!!! Keep those nutrients low when you get er goin again! Awesome job getting the tank scrubbed down

Welcome to R2R! This is a great place to ask any question no matter how mundane it may seem!

Out standing job on the clean up of the new tank!
