I need your input guys... I've been experimenting on my wife's camera the past couple of days and have found that little camera to be very functional... here's some comparison shots I took the past two days and PLMK which one you like better... the first photos I'll post are without fixing the white balance and the second set I used the auto function to set the white balance and also toned down the (f) to -1...

which set of pics do you guys prefer to look at? and which one shows the colors of the corals better?

Thanks guys... I was thinking the same way... the second set seemed like it lost a lot of the colors... but it did help fix the overexposure problem a little... got some more practicing to do.. I'm glad I have you guys to critique the photos.. :)

I’m torn here Marvin. I like the overall look as a whole of the second set much better than the first. However, that said, I like the look of most of the individual coral much better in the first set.

Unfortunately, when taking a photograph of a subject with a wide variety of light and a mix of bright and dark objects, sometimes you have to give something up to get something.

I would really suggest trying to shade the hot spots in the tank to provide a more even light…

OR…

Use a tripod so you know there will be no camera movement between shots. Shoot the shot with both settings, then use an overlay in photoshop so you can use the best areas of each shot in one picture.

here's some more comparison pics and I'll stay with the 4 pics limit.. LoLz..

I really appreciate your input because this is going to help determine what I'll use for "The Quest" & "32g Revived" threads I have going on right now..

Thanks again...

What does Nikon Guy know about pics anyway! :D

I think your tank would look better in my living room.

I like the first sets color, but the second sets brightness... can you adjust for a better mix of those two?

each set has plusses and minuses

i would agree that the first set has better color, but there are also parts that are overexposed, which is a big minus for me.
the second set it a bit dark, and also a bit yellowish

i think there is a happy medium to be found, you just have to play with the camera for a while
