Picture size limit in post

I am trying to add some higher definition pictures to my tank thread, and they are grayed out in selection. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Thank you. I found I was able to post larger pictures in replies than in the actual picture gallery. Weird, but I'm sure there is a reason
