Everybody might hate me for being a salt water fisherman, but I set pin fish traps and always get plenty of 1 to 2 inch pin fish in my traps. To the un-knowing tank viewer they might look cool. Has anybody ever had them in their tanks ?

Decades ago in a tank with a gravel filter.

They are not really reef safe are they? ;) I reckon they will eat smaller fish (and if i remember correctly get fairly large themselves).

They dig around in the sand a fair bit as well do they not? Really rather pretty though! :-)

Don't know about the digging, they do get up to 4 to 6 inches in the wild (personal experience) but I think all fish besides herbivores eat other fish, not planning on keeping the pins unless its a pin only tank. oops, new idea in the works.

Wife and I had saltwater reef aquariums back in the mid 90's we decided to get back in it due to my pin fish traps, but not because of the pin fish. It was due to calico crabs. like this guy
