I'm thinking of getting a pineapple fish for my 150G reef tank. Anyone here have any experiance with them?? Are they reef compatible??? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

David

I don't think that they are reef compatiable 100% as they may eat inverts like shrimp. They are cooler water fish, but depending where they are collected, you could keep them in a tank that is 75 F. Diver's Den just had one from the warmer waters. It was a pricey fish IIRC close to $700.

So I decided to the get pineapple fish!!!! After seeing it in person I decided it was too unique of a fish to pass up and especially at the low price of $200. My research shows that this is indeed a reef safe fish from a coral perspective. My shrimp so far though have gone untouched. It's a nocturnal fish ofr the most part so it stays hovering under a cliff all day and only swims around at night when the lights are out.

The fish has a symbiotic relationship with bio-luminescent bacteria near it's mouth which glows a yellowish/green when the lights are out. Here is a picture with the lights out so that you can see the little glow.

Over all a very cool fish. I'm just working on getting it to eat during the day now.

Will keep posting updates when I can.

Unfortunately I found him one day stuck to my MP40. I got it off right away but it must of have gotten some internal damage as it didn't make it through the night. It was a truely unique fish and I really miss it.... Don't know the next time another will ever show up in my LFS again....

That sucks. I would love one, but I'm deathly afraid of it dyeing. Too expensive to lose...
