Turned the light on under the tank this evening and saw dozens of what I think are pineapple sponges, but not sure what this other "webby" looking thing is.

I also have these sponges in my sump they are now getting on the rock in the main display probably 50 in sump and 50 in display. Is there a way to stop it? I don't want it to get out of control. I have around 25 corals in the tank don't know if it will effect them? I have been feeding reef roids to the tank and I think it's what the sponges eat too and is making it worse?

If your tank is new I wouldn't stress it, but nutrient control may help. Reduce silicates. If you're broadcast feeding, maybe try less food and target feed. If you already target then wait it out. Intervene (manual removal) if there is obvious irritation.

What are your water parameters?

I also have massive amounts of pineapple sponges. Do they need light to grow? I'm afraid they're probably in the plumbing....

Are there any creatures that eat them?

No they don’t need light . they filter feed and no fish is specifically known for eating them . It’s just a phase and will go away I’m no time

My pineapple sponges are finally going away took around 3 months from start to now. The only thing I did was clean all the pipes twice and cleaned all of them out of the sump once. Also cleaned the overflow three times.

"I currently have the same pineapple sponges at the back off my NUVO 20. I do find it weird that they are only growing where my refugium light is hitting and nowhere else."

I am interested in adding sponge to my aquarium.
Please let me know if you would be willing to share some of them.
I have shipping containers from Liveaquaria, bags, etc. I can send you to ship them in.

Obviously I will pay for shipping everything.

Thanks!

I would wager you already have them.
You could , do some carbon dosing and even silicate dosing to encourage them.
Pineapple sponges fade over time because they are a sponge that has a silicate skeleton.
The mystery appearance in an established tank often is an indication of silicates in the rodi.

I only have around 30 left was around 500 just going to leave them alone not trying to sell them grown to like them and sad to see them go. Was just worried they would take over.

Searching a few more sponge threads lead me to this.

Thanks for the dosing suggestion!

In my tank they go through cycles but I feel these sponges are good I have a bunch in my sump i have a lot of LR in my sump, one month there’s a bunch 2-3 months later only a few then they comeback. But they are filter feeders I feel it’s good since they filtering the water. They seem to grow better in low flow areas where my return pump chamber they flourish

Are they specifically pineapple sponges that come and go?

Not 100% sure if they were all pineapple some have that crown others have long tubes instead of the feather duster looking crown but the base to all look the same they grow in different weird patterns I will snatch a pic when I get home
