These pineapple sponges are taking over. It's there any way to get rid of them?

Lower nutrient levels; I have also read that h202 will kill them. In my limited experience they come and go over time.
Certainly you could tooth brush them off if they become a real problem, although, as you know, they are harmless filter feeders and add diversity.
