Pink Gorilla?

Not sure how I missed this guy. Has about a 2” leg spread. Always thought they were more green/brown than pink? At least the others I’ve pulled were that green brown.

I have a mantis shrimp trap arriving today to get that out so it will serve 2 functions now.

Not technically a gorilla crab, but pretty much a gorilla crab:

It seems to be a "Hairy Crab" (Pilumnus sp.), possibly a Spineback Hairy Crab (Pilumnus sayi), it's basically a "gorilla crab" from a hobbyist perspective, but that term actually refers to crabs from the stone crab family Xanthidae, while this guy (if my ID is accurate) would be from the family Pilumnidae. It's not reef safe, but it is pretty neat.

Ok, so I put the trap in there that just arrived and the crab is actually trying to pull the whole trap under the rocks. As it was doing that, something else came out of the rock and tried to grab stuff. Seems smaller than the mantis shrimp I know that’s in there which is like 2” long. But is it the mantis or something else?

I can't see the body shape or claws well enough to say for sure, but it's probably not a crab you want to keep in your display.

In my experience, which is somewhat limited, the best way to get those guys out is know which rock they live in in, and pull the rock, and stab until it bails out...

I can't see the body shape or claws well enough to say for sure, but it's probably not a crab you want to keep in your display.

Yeah, he was pretty strong. The nassarius snails all hot in the trap before him so need another try tomorrow.

Live ocean rock. I was just letting the octopus eat whatever was in there.

Took me about 15 months to evict all of mine. I suspect some come in very small and grow out over time.
