I have a very colorful pink lemonaid. I noticed that there was three small patches all above the other that was down to the white. I was told to check my Potassium. I did and it was low. I brought it up to about 310ppm before I ran out of product. It seemed to heal and then it started doing again. Same area. None of my other SPS have this going on. I cheked it with a flashlight early this morning and nothing can be seen on the coral itself. There appears to be no red bugs or any other things on it. I have not seen any fish pick at it. There were no flatworms on it. I have my tank on a doser so no Alk Swing. What could be going on?

Thanks

That's weird. Can you get a decent picture?

Are you dosing anything or adding anything in the spot where it is placed?

I'm having the same issue. I've lost two small colonies already, One was a green slimmer and the other a blue mili. Now it's starting on my Cali blue tort. I've tested all the normal parameters, they are fine and non detect on NO3 and PO4. Haven't checke potassium which test kit are you using? Do you have any cyno going on? I can't get rid of it in my frag tank for some reason.

any lps around? how high is it .... ive had a few tips get stung when up near the top of the tank during water changes from a nearby chalice that didnt like beign out of the water..
or maybe a fish is sleeping on it.....

hard to say without a pic though.

Even if your tank is on a doser you can still have alk swings. If you aren't dosing the correct amount. Test at the same time every other day for a week. Make sure you aren't seeing a big jump or decrease daily.

When I first got my PL I had this happen it then healed over and has been growing steady since. I chalked it up to something being off w/my params but never could pin point it.

This is what's happening to mine.

Can you list your parameters and give us a list of what your dosing? I would frag a healthy piece off just in case.

if the colony is pealing extensivly and quickly I would chop the heck out of it as the receding will continue and most likly wipe out the colony.
Be sure to cut a 1/2 or so above the receding part

My parameters are all with in normal range or alittle high
ca+ 460
Alk8.6 dkh
Mag 1600
NO3 undetectable
PO4 undetectable
Doseing iodine, kalk+ strotuim, vita C feeding kents microfeast have a ca reactor with ca media and mag chips in it.
I hate to frag it all up it's my first colony sized coral that I've grown from a frag.
Think it could be some kind of pest? Can't see anything.

No large swings in temp that I have noticed I'll check the aqua controllers memory.

Drop that mag, and I would quit dosing all that stuff, and do some solid sized water changes get everything stable. If you don't test for it, don't dose it.

I would recheck your alk. I had this happen to me a few months ago and lost just about all of my sps the same way. Also how do you dose your kalk? How often do you add new kalk to your doser? My problem ended up being that the kalk was actually exhausted and I was adding the impurities to the water. I couldn't keep my alk above 7-8 dkh. I'm running mine around 10 now and rinse and replace the kalk every 10 gallons of water(I use a 5gal. food grade jug for drip). Haven't had any issues since.

Interesting I use a reactor hooked up to my ATO unit. I put about 2 cups of kalk at a time in it about once a month. I top off about about 3-4 gallons of water a day. About two weeks ago I did have an kalk overdose but I didn't lose anything.

sps sometimes wont react immediately to fluctuations, kalk overdose or temp swings, but they will bleach out a week or two later. I would stop dosing and do a water change. Have you tested iodine and strontium? What kind of lights are you using?
