Pink Skunk Clownfish Attacking Firefish Goby

Hi,

I just got a Firefish Goby and put it in my 5 gallon with only 2 Pink Skunk Clownfish. They started attacking teh Firefish and ate off half of its fins so I moved it to the refugium. Is there anyway to reintroduce the Firefish once it's healed up or should I just leave him/her in the refugium? Thanks!

If you plan on reintroducing it you should use an acclimation box to better your odds of success, otherwise if your fuge is big enough leave him in there as pink skunks can be super nasty in pairs mine tried to kill fish already established long before them in a tank

Oh wow, I did not know that. I though clownfish were mostly peaceful but I’ll try a separation tank after a week or two so that the Firefish can heal. Praying it will survive. Posted some pictures by the way.

Unfortunately that tank is too small for clownfish. They are moderately aggressive fish in any tank and will be very aggressive to any newcomer in that size tank. As they get bigger the female may kill the male.

Female clowns assert dominance over male clowns as part of normal pair behavior. It can get too much in smaller tanks

How does the tank size affect mating? I do plan on moving up in a couple of months since I'm liking the whole experience so far. Thanks for answering my newbie questions.

Once established, clowns can be terrors! Tomato, Clarkii, & Maroon complex most aggressive, ocellaris & skunk complex the least, however, all of them can be aggressive. Related to damselfish

If you put a new fish in a separation box, do the aggressive fishes get used to the new fish after a while?
