What are your thoughts on using Safety stop and a wrasses? Specifically a pink streak? Its a 30-45min dip of methylene blue and Formalin.

This medication makes me a little nervous as it appears of more a tonic than treatment and formalin can be mixed with malachite green and not so much methylene. The ingredients - one for parasites and other for bacteria. . . hmmmm
Ruby rally pro or quick cure are good forms of formalin. As a dip, it would be a good gamble, but I'd rather use general cure as a dip or Ruby Rally

The trouble with all dips is that they are simply not 100% effective. Safety stop does nothing against Neobenedenia fluke eggs, and isn’t 100% effective against encysted trophonts. It will help reduce the chance of disease transmission and is better than doing nothing, or just a FW dip, but it is not as effective as a full quarantine cycle. Even a full quarantine isn’t 100%, but it is closer to that goal.
I also would advise against using ANY dip on a fish that was shipped to you….give it 72 hours to recover before adding on the stress of a dip to the stress of shipping.

I've used it on a pink streaked. I do tank transfer for 14 days every 24 hours, then use safety stop as a bath before going into the DT. Arguably overkill.

Yes - methylene blue is really old school, and people typically don’t dose it accurately - in many cases they just add some to the water until it turns blue then call it good(grin).

What happened is that methylene blue is used as a substitute oxygen donor for some human issues. People then thought, hey I’ll just add that to help my fish then. Actually, MB was originally used as a fish egg fungicide and sometimes against FW protozoans like Costia. It never really had much use in marine aquariums.

I don’t think I’ve used it in over 20 years.
