Pink-Streaked Wrasse parasite ID

Hi Guys,

Hoping someone on here can tell me what I'm dealing with and a recommended treatment plan.

I'm guessing its some sort of parasite; I'm going to get a QT tank set up tomorrow. He's still eating extremely well; I've been feeding with selcon/vitmarin m sporadically (before I noticed this).

Whatever they are they are located on his tailfin and dorsal fins. No heavy breathing or red gills. Some flashing very rarely.

I'm thinking flukes? I'm not sure looking for some input!

Unfortunately - your picture is pretty dark. I can't see the tail fin. I see what you mean on the dorsal fin. If you could answer some of the questions in the link in my signature - would appreciate more information from you

I will lighten up the photo really quick, I took a few more as well.

Tank: IM Nuvo 15 AIO
No skimmer, no UV, no chemical filtration (only filter floss)
Reef Tank established November 17th
8 assorted snails, 2 hermits

Fish was added on December 23rd no QT.

Only fish in the aquarium, no other setbacks or sudden deaths of any other inhabitants.
Lighting: Maxspect 165 60w JUMP
Water Parameters:
Flow: minjet and MP10
Temp- 79f
Salinity 1.025
pH - 8.2
dKH - 8.7
NO3 - 2.5
PO4 - 0
Nitrite - 0
Ammonia - 0

Are you talking about the nodule looking things at the base of the dorsal fin spines? Visually, those are not monogenean flukes, or any of the other common external parasites. There is an outside chance that they are small digenean flukes (those that require secondary hosts to pass on their life cycle). You would need to do a biopsy to confirm it, but I think they are Microsporidian cysts. The white nodules would be what are called xenomas.

There are some experimental treatments, but no drugs that I know of in the pet trade. This may not be a fatal illness though.

OK - thanks a lot for that information. So it's a Non-QT'd fish - To me - the spots are in an odd place for lymphocystis (but possible) - do not look like velvet. If I was going to pick - I would say a very mild CI infection. (Ich). Assuming there is no breathing, or other symptoms - these are the spots on the tail. The dorsal spine may be a viral infection - or just the way 'the fish is'. Is it getting worse, better, staying the same?

Thank you for the input, I'm sorry I didn't read the protocol initially. I haven't noticed anything out of the normal, if anything he's continuing to settle in nicely. He still sleeps in the same spot nightly, forming his mucus cocoon, eats like a dump-truck multiple times daily. I think I had mentioned some flashing in the original post, which has subsided significantly. This evening he seemed a little more "adventurous" and was perusing outside of his normal cave. Still hunts pods casually throughout the day.

I hadn't noticed anything on the dorsal fin until today so I can't speak to that ailment. The spots on the tail seemed to have gotten more noticeable. I remember seeing a speck or two last week but didn't think any of it at the time.

The only "treatment" (which isnt even a treatment) is the addition of selcon and vitamrin to his frozen foods (LRS, Rods, and Mysis)

Thank you so much for your time. He is the only fish planned for this tank and I'd like to give him the best shot I can. So hard to find and I was lucky enough to find one at my local LFS (which has a good reputation)

Thanks for the input, Jay. Like I mentioned he seems to be behaving normally. Maybe with proper diet and clean water he can coexist peacefully.

Sounds good I will keep y'all updated. Thanks again for the input. The only other thing I forgot to mention was that he hangs out near my blasto frequently. I'm not sure about their resistance to stings or anything but he defiantly has brushed up against it before.
