Pink Stylos

Are pink stylophoras actually that pink under blueish lights (20K spectrum)? What PAR do I need to keep them under to get the pink to stay? Thinking about getting an ORA pink stylo. Thanks!
Kinda curious about this as well. They look great but I just wonder if it's camera tricks lol

Depends what 20k you’re referring to.
I’ve seen it under 20k radium halide and they’re most definitely pink. Not sure under 20k radion settings.

I had one that was pink but morphed into purple with the purple stylo next to it. I think it's mostly camera tricks though for coloring.
Wow, do you have a picture? Just curious what it looked like when it was pink and next to the purple.

Also makes me wonder if perhaps they go pink when something is off (lights etc…). For example Setosa can go from deep orange to the light red/pink when not happy.

Sorry no, my pics from the front of the tank show the big purple stylo and you can't see the pink behind it. The purple grew way faster then the pink and I think the pink just morphed into a purple as a survival instinct or something so it wouldn't get crowded out.

It seems like pink is different than purple. I know ORA grows stuff with natural sunlight if I’m not mistaken so I wonder if the difference in spectrum or intensity under LED lighting will cause it’s color to morph.

I have a pink stylo that is bright, deep pink - it's not from ORA. Started from a wild colony frag that I had 15 years ago and got it back from a friend when I rebooted the tank. Have it under AB+ at around 275 par. I think if you have it under 20k its going to look a lot more purple as mine does under "sunrise" and "dusk".

Really depends on the lighting. I had some under 16k Phoenix halide bulbs a decade or so ago and it was a perfect beautiful pink. I loved it, it was my favorite coral. As soon as I feel like my new tank is stable enough I'll be looking for some to put under a Kessil a500x, and we will see..... The kessil is pretty easy to tune to look like natural sunlight, like a halide. This is why I chose it. I expect it will be a nice pink under this light at my settings.

If you look at it somewhere like Queen City Corals, under their ridiculously blue lights, every one of their varieties looks the same, and the pink isn't pink at all. However, that is likely just from their silly on trend windex lighting. Who knows what they look like under something that looks like real sunlight? So, I think you have to decide if you are going light your tank like a real reef, or if you are going to light it like an acid trip, which seems to be the norm at the moment. When ORA has their pink in stock again, I will give that a try. It looks the closest to what I had in the past.

Under blue LEDs you will not get the deep pink in stylophora. You need higher par/ whiter spectrum lighting to bring that out. Think shallow reef.

I know for sure that they like full spectrum and high par.
since I changed one of my T5 bulbs from 6500k to blue plus , the pink stylo lost her deep pink.

Charlie….just ask broI you know i got a colony and many frags of it….and your right it needs high par. In the DT it gets about 300 and looks purplish, but in the frag they get baked with 400+ and they are nice and pink. I’ll send you a pic…
Also have a Rainbow stylo….

that pink and green one look like different stylophora species compared to the purple one to me. the growth structure isnt the same. the pinks and greens tend to have that more blunted round tips while the purples tend to be more cylindrical with their branches
