2.5 weeks ago bought a pink tail trigger. It's eating very well as I clip fresh mussels to a Veggieclip that dangles near where he hides

I have yet to see him swim visibly where I can watch and enjoy him.

Is this the way its going to be?

Or

Will he eventually come out and be interactive? As I heard once they trust the owner they're almost like having a dog

Give him time mine hid for a few weeks and is still a little skittish if I make sudden movements but he has gotten better. What other fish do you have in tank and do they swim in the open which may give him a good piece of mind there is nothing in the tank that will hurt him

Only a Blue hippo which also hides about 75% of the time. They hide together with zero hostility towards each other

Just an assumption if there are currently no other fish he may think it’s not safe to swim in the open until he’s sure there are no predators. I’ve read somewhere as you add more fish he will become more comfortable seeing them swimming around and not being attacked.

Ooo I like this idea add some chromis or cardinals!!!!

It's just a matter of time, they can be shy sometimes, definitely on the milder side of triggers. But as long as no one is bullying they will come around. As mentioned, the addition of some dither fish will put them at ease, and yes chromis or cardinals would do the trick. But add them only if you also like them.

Just did a quick image search (since unfortunately you couldn't post a photo for us) What a beautiful fish!! Looks identical in shape to the Niger Trigger. I may have to put that one on the list for my 180 (which has a Niger, Clown and Humu Humu) already.

I love my triggers. They are always swimming around and have such great personalities... They know when its dinnertime and come right up to me as I bring their food over (usually I defrost 3 cubes of frozen food in a small plastic cup) the Niger, almost every time, tries to grab a bite through the cup lol

The Humu humu, is so much fun, insanely curious, but he will get ya if you aren't careful. I was cleaning the glass one day and somehow managed to let my finger get into the water... all the sudden I was like OOOUCCHHH! That little sucker bites HARD!!! lol

They start out that way but will certainly come out for food
Assure white intensity is not too bright. Hovering in front of tank will make it hide- stand back a few feet and its likely to come out more
