pinpoint ph monitor calibration solution?

hey folks,does anyone know of a way to check the calibration of a pinpoint with a home made solution?a month ago I put a new probe and battery in my 6 year old unit.i calibrated it and it read fine.now it's reading 7.8 to 8.0 at best and doesn't budge even when I open the house up.it does rise slightly when I add alk (AF comp #2) to the sump by hand. checked it with another kit and it says 8.3.anyway i'm out of solution and want to give it a check before I start ordering stuff.i know my way around a reef so please don't respond with the usual what are your params they are good.just thinking it may be time for a new unit soon.thanks in advance r2r community for your help.

What's pH? This is one of those parameters you can throw out the window IME. Just focus on the big three. Magnesium, Calcium & Alkalinity. (in that order)

You can use borax to create a solution with a known pH of about 9.2 at reef temps, so that would at least be good for checking if your meter was giving a good reading back:

Calibration drifts on pH meters. I suspect it is time to recalibrate.
